Description
In fanfiction, Erik is an unfortunate target for Mary-Sues: women that usually come after Christine and hypnotize the poor man into falling madly in love with them. They are typically perfect in every way, and for some odd reason, they 'understand' Erik's pain, even though they are far more...erm...well off than he is. And usually in these stories, Erik's "repulsive face' consists of a festering boil beneath his eyelid that probably controls his thoughts, leading him to compose sappy love poems to said new lover and cry over a hangnail. The rest of him is tanned, pure muscular godliness, and conveniently enough, he never wears a shirt. In fact he's so perfect that eventually, he discards the mask completely and becomes a bubbly elementary school teacher!
Which kind of defeats the whole 'living corpse' thing, huh?
That being said, I've read some awesome stories where Erik meets another woman after Christine. I just couldn't resist the whole "Mary Sue" issue. (Incidentally, it took me forever to find out what a Mary Sue character was. I remember thinking, "There was no one in the book named Mary-Sue...was that Christine's middle name?")
