Ah haa. Ah haaaaaaaaa. Because his name is SIRIUS. Get it? Ah ha ha ha--
Ahem.
Okay, so here's the spiel. Sirius is my favorite Harry Potter character. Ever. I love Dumbledore, I love Harry and Ron and Hermione and Snape and blah blah blah, but Sirius?
He's got a flying. Motorcycle.
I mean, come on. You can't beat that. No one else even had a chance. I still would have liked him even if he'd ridden a flying pogo stick.
I loved Sirius even before I finished PoA and found out he was innocent. Because for whatever reason, I love fugitive-on-the-run stories. Not in real life. In real life, it's awful. But fictional fugitives who are actually innocent but are nonetheless hardened by their time behind bars? (Harrison Ford, my man!) EXCELLENT.
And yes, I realize that Sirius was the very definition of a jerk throughout his teenage years, but he had a rotten home life. And anyway, the snark wore off after his best friends were murdered and another one blew up a street and he was framed and subsequently forced to spend thirteen years behind bars. When it comes down to it, Sirius is a good guy and he's got a big heart.
I always pictured him sort of permanently physically wasted after all those years in Azkaban, but still possessing a ghost of his former good looks. Originally, I'd planned on drawing him in his robes here, but the jeans and t-shirt just sort of showed up. I guess it makes sense. I doubt after over a decade of wearing moldy old crap you'd want to succumb to wizarding social customs and wear heavy robes all day. Sort of like, "I spent the better part of my life sitting in my own crap and growing a Rasputin beard and talking to the wall in a cell surrounded by big scabby grim reapers who kept trying to suck my SOUL out of my FACE, so if I want to wear jeans and socks with sandals, then so help me, I'll DO IT.
And you know what? I might just get an EARRING. Yeah, you heard me right. AN EARRING."
I'll bet after everyone left Grimmauld Place he wandered around in plaid pajama bottoms and watched "Friends" marathons with Buckbeak while chugging a few Jack Daniels.
LONG STORY SHORT here is Sirius, and I love him and that is all.
