De Chagny

Raoul is so cute. I need to start drawing him more often. Cute little Vicomte Pants. 

This is about as close as I've ever gotten to drawing him how I picture him. I really wanted to allude to the fact that he's a sailor, which almost every adaptation seems to forget--hence the ropes and ocean-ish color scheme. In my head, Raoul's favorite place in the world is the sea, on a ship with Christine. I like to imagine that one of Christine's favorite things about him are his eyes because they're the same color as the sea that he loves. It such a cool aspect of his character. Seafarin' Raoul. Swashbucklin' Raoul. Why the heck aren't there more adaptations with outdoorsy, Ship Captain Raoul? Christine could tag along with him on his boat. 

But she'd be sure to keep her red scarf safely around her neck this time around so he wouldn't have to jump overboard to fetch it for her. Even though,of course, he'd jump overboard in an instant for her. 

I almost gave him a mustache in a nod to Leroux, but I thought he looked better without it here. Instead, he ended up vaguely resembling Steve Rogers, which actually worked out pretty well. I have a feeling Raoul and Steve would hit it off.
